QR labels and field view
Every item has a short URL, /i/<code> (for example zimmet.dev/i/drone_001). Its QR label encodes this URL, so scanning it with any phone camera opens the field view.
Printing labels
Section titled “Printing labels”Labels (/labels) prints QR labels for the items you select, in small, medium or large sizes. Print them on sticker paper and stick them on the hardware. Each label carries the QR code, the item code in plain text (readable even when the QR is scratched), the type and the item name.
Scanning
Section titled “Scanning”Phone cameras open the URL directly. Inside the app, Scan (/scan) uses the camera in browsers that support the BarcodeDetector API. Elsewhere, type in the code.
The field view
Section titled “The field view”The field view is built for one hand and bad light. Top to bottom:
- Status, including the rolled-up status and the parts causing it.
- Custody: who holds the item.
- Problem parts inside: components that are attention or faulty.
- One-tap actions:
- Report a problem on the item or on one of its parts, with a status, a note and a photo.
- Set status.
- Add a note.
- Take, request or hand over custody. See Custody handovers.
- Components installed in the item.
- Datasheets, including the documents of its components.
- Recent comments.
Notes and problem reports from the field view are marked after QR scan in the comment thread, so office staff can tell they came from someone standing next to the item. A photo attached to a problem report is saved as an image document on the item.
